Mission Statement

The Demopolis City Schools band program exists to train students in the art of instrumental music, to provide a high quality
co-curricular band experience, and to develop character and work ethic through the dedicated pursuit of excellence.

The instrumental music program in the Demopolis City Schools is a comprehensive program that provides a wide range of opportunities to its students.  Demopolis Middle School students may start Beginning Band in Sixth Grade and continue into Intermediate Band and/or Advanced Band.  Members of the DMS Advanced Band also participate with the Demopolis High School “River City Blue” marching band and the Concert Band.  The marching band Auxiliary consists of the Color Guard, Dance Line, and Majorettes.  Additionally, Music Appreciation is offered as a Fine Arts elective.

Since the arrival of Matthew Fields as Director of Bands in 2009, the Demopolis bands have experienced much positive growth. The "River City Blue" marching band has received superior ratings as marching contests across the state of Alabama.  The Concert Band performs multiple times each year, including the DHS JROTC Veteran's Day Program, the Christmas Concert, the annual performance for the Demopolis Music Study Club, the Mid-Spring Concert & Lunchbox Auction, the May Dessert Concert, and at the DHS commencement exercises.  Outside of the band room walls, Demopolis band students have gone on to represent our program in college bands throughout the southeast, regularly earn superior ratings at solo & ensemble, and participate in honor bands.
